The Story Behind ‘Grow Untamed’

After an unforgettable trip to Costa Rica with a friend last year, I made a spontaneous decision—just two days before the trip ended—to travel to Mexico. Why Mexico? I had become fascinated by the beautiful cenotes I had seen and wanted to experience them for myself.

Once I arrived in Valladolid, I planned a trip to visit the cenotes right away. I expected to join a group tour, but because it was the off-season, it turned into a private excursion. I remember feeling a bit uncomfortable when I arrived at the Xux Ha cenote, watching groups of people laughing and enjoying themselves as they were about to leave, while I stood there completely alone. But over time, that feeling of loneliness shifted into a sense of peace.

I found myself standing at the edge of a breathtaking cenote. The idea of jumping into the icy, turquoise water felt overwhelming at first, but when I finally took the leap, everything changed. That moment became one of the most special memories of my trip, helping me rediscover my inner strength.

This experience also inspired my new artwork, ‘Grow Untamed.’ With this painting, I wanted to capture the wild energy, freedom, and vibrancy of that unforgettable moment.

As I worked on this piece, I often thought back to that moment and reflected on my personal journey—growth, vulnerability, and learning to be okay with myself, whether I’m surrounded by people or completely alone, with all my imperfections. Over the past year, and especially through this trip, I’ve realized that true freedom and happiness don’t come from chasing more goals or meeting others’ expectations, but from embracing who you truly are.

‘Grow Untamed’ is more than just an artwork; it’s a reflection of that journey toward self-discovery. It’s about fully showing up as yourself, no matter how difficult that can be at times. This painting is a reminder that strength and beauty are often found in the quiet, solitary moments when we learn to embrace ourselves.
